Description

A vintage Taxco silver bracelet featuring a captivating and bold nail and bullet design is a rare find for any jewelry collector. This piece immediately stands out, weighing a solid 23.8 grams of sterling silver. The unique cuff-style bracelet is elegantly sized to fit approximately a 6 1/2 inch wrist, as measured on a standard bracelet mandrel. It is clearly stamped on the interior with the artisan mark TO-39 925 MEXICO, affirming its origin and sterling silver purity. There are two subtle indentations near the hinge that blend in well with the design and are difficult to spot, but they are noted as a call out.

The bracelet hails from Taxco, Mexico, a town whose name is synonymous with fine sterling silver craftsmanship. Taxco’s modern silver jewelry tradition began in the 1920s and 30s when American artist William Spratling arrived and helped revitalize the ancient silver mining and crafting industry. This led to a flourishing period of design, where Mexican artisans embraced both traditional and modern, often architectural, forms. This particular nail and bullet or screw head design is a fascinating example of jewelry that takes inspiration from industrial or everyday objects, transforming them into wearable art. Pieces like this are a hallmark of the mid-20th-century Taxco style, known for their substantial weight, clean lines, and innovative, often unisex, aesthetic. This genre of jewelry is prized for its craftsmanship and its tangible connection to the vibrant history of Mexican silver work.
