800 Silver Floral Cuff Bracelet with Maker's Mark
- Weight20.8 g
Description
This captivating 800 silver floral cuff bracelet is a beautiful example of European craftsmanship, with a history that can be felt in its flexible, yet sturdy, design. The bracelet showcases a striking repoussé design of a botanical motif, possibly depicting poppy buds, with a textured and oxidized finish that highlights the intricate details. The cuff's elegant, tapering form measures approximately 6 3/4" in circumference with a 13/16" opening. Its flexible nature allows it to be easily and carefully adjusted to a comfortable fit for a variety of wrist sizes. The substantial width of 1 1/8" at its widest point makes a bold statement. The piece is hallmarked with the maker's mark "ABTD G" and "800," along with a woman's head, which could be a duty mark, indicating it was taxed upon import or export, adding a fascinating layer to its history. Weighing in at 20.8 grams, the bracelet feels substantial and well-made. This style of jewelry, with its artistic and naturalistic motifs, is often associated with the Art Nouveau period, which flourished from the 1890s to the 1910s. Art Nouveau jewelry celebrated the fluid, organic lines of nature, moving away from the rigid geometric patterns of previous eras. This piece, with its graceful curves and detailed floral elements, embodies that aesthetic and would make a unique and cherished addition to any collection.

This one suits wrists from about 6.96" to 7.41". Measure with a tape or a strip of paper, snug against the skin, just below the wrist bone.

It will rotate, catch on clothing, and is likely to be lost off the wrist.
Slight adjustment possible — once
Light-gauge silver can be eased a little by a jeweller to follow your wrist. Once. Repeated bending work-hardens the metal and it eventually snaps at the shoulder.
How to put a vintage cuff on without bending it
- Turn the cuff so the gap faces the underside of your wrist.
- Rest the opening against the narrowest part — the flat side of the wrist, not the back of the hand.
- Roll it on: slide one terminal past the wrist bone, then rotate the cuff around rather than pushing it straight on.
- Turn the gap back underneath once it is on.
The roll is the whole trick. Pushing a cuff on straight is what makes people force the gap wider, and the silver does not come back.
