This mark combines a purity declaration (STERLING, certifying 92.5% minimum silver content), an origin mark (DENMARK), and the maker's stamp of Niels Erik From (N.E. FROM). It is struck in neat, sans-serif block lettering, typically in a single line or grouped in small stamped blocks on the reverse of brooch plates, bracelet links, or ring shanks.
Niels Erik From (1908–1982) was a major Danish silversmith who opened his workshop in Nakskov in 1931. His production spanned two distinct stylistic eras: early organic, Skønvirke-influenced designs with scrolling repoussé silver and semi-precious cabochons (such as amber, rose quartz, and chrysoprase), and clean, geometric Mid-Century Modern jewelry produced from the late 1950s onward. The business continued under his family until roughly 1990.
This all-caps block stamp 'N.E. FROM' is most commonly associated with his post-war modernist work. It can be distinguished from his earlier marks, which typically featured 'FROM' in cursive script or 'N.E. From' inside a rounded oblong cartouche alongside numeric purity marks like '830S' or '925S'.
